Birth

Thename of this child is entered differently on various documents. The Holland, Ottawa County, Michgan Census of 1870, taken in July lists a male child in the Schols household, born in December 1869. The name is not clear but looks like Wate. mother: foreign born, father: foreign born The Ottawa County Death Records of Holland, Ottawa County, Michgan 1867-1901 lists the death of child named Kate, sex male? on 20 September 1870. Was the transcriber not sure of the sex because of the name, or was the name in the record not clear. The name of the father is listed as Cornelis Schols and the mother as Zeitije / Zatije, which is not an existing name, so it could have been Tietje. An additional problem is the name itself, which is NOT a boy's name, not in Dutch nor in Frisian. The name should be Wate which is a Frisian boy's name. (http://www.friesenamen.nl/jongensnamen/w) and a family name on Tietje's side. www.kindredkonnections.com thinks the name is Wate, but declares the mother's name to be ZIETIJO.

Note

The existence of this child is not entirely clear. The 1870 Census lists in the Schols household an infant born 9 December 1869, with, what looks like. the name Kate. The sex of the child is listed as male. The Ottawa County Death Records 1867-1901 lists the death of child called Kate, sex M?. Was the transcriber not sure because of the name, or was the record not clear? The father is listed as Cornelis Schols and the mother as Zeitje/Zatije. Obviously that wasn't clear either, so the name could very well have been Tietje Sytzen.
